(Los Angeles, CA – August 10, 2015) — Emii’s “Heart in a Box” hit #7 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales Chart last week after debuting the prior week at #10. The song, which was co-written by Grammy Award winning songwriter Cristyle (Credits: Beyonce’s “I Am…Sasha Fierce” and Rihanna’s “Loud”), has spent an impressive 15 weeks on the Mediabase Top 40 Pop Chart.
“Heart in a Box” is seeing significant play on Sirus XM Radio and over fifty Top 40 radio stations, and is also being played in heavy rotation in over 8,000 retail locations across the United States including: Verizon Wireless, Apple, Subway, AT&T and McDonald’s. Radio DJ’s are eager to weigh in on how much they love Emii’s Music:
“We love Emii. “Heart In A Box” is a GREAT song, love her vocals. Already in heavy rotation here on Rhythm 105.9.” – Dan Mathews/Program Director Rhythm 105.9/Sacramento
Emii is making her mark as an independent artist as “Heart in a Box” is holding strong at #2 in the Top 10 Most Active Independent Artists chart. Her previous single, “Leaving You Behind”, remained in the Top 5 Most Active Independent Artists on both the Pop and A/C Mediabase Charts for nine consecutive weeks, including a two week stay at #1 on Pop.
“It’s not often a subject that gets the music video treatment, but domestic violence is an issue that NEEDS to become more mainstream because awareness is key.”
“To put things into perspective, here are a few facts about domestic violence in the US. Between 2001 and 2012, 6,488 troops were killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. The number of American women who were murdered by current or ex male partners during that time was 11,766.”
“Women are also more likely to be partners of intimate partner violence as 85% of domestic violence victims are women, and 15% are men. A woman is beaten every 9 seconds in the US. Domestic violence is the third leading cause of homelessness amongst families. These statistics get worse when you start looking into LGBTQ cases, women of color, and people with disabilities.
What we’re trying to say is, this issue deserves more pop culture and entertainment coverage than Kim Kardashian’s latest outfit! So when we see musicians and pop stars like Emii, and country singer Sam Hunt who recently released a confronting music video about domestic violence called “Take Your Time”, they are setting an important example for the rest of the industry.
The music and entertainment biz is arguably more impactful than your average news source. Thanks to social media, everyone having smart phones and the internet being part of our everyday lives, we consume a HELL of a lot of media on a daily basis. We need to see more and more influential people shedding light on important issues.”
